Windows 7

• Open Connect to a Network by right-clicking the network icon in the notification area.
• In the list of available wireless networks, click "OLPLWireless", and then click connect.

Windows Vista

• Click on START -> Connect to
• In the Show list, click Wireless (you should see a list of wireless networks)
• Click "OLPLWireless", and then Connect.

This completes the procedure.

If the network is not showing, click Set up a connection or network.

Does your PC have a wireless switch on the front or side of the computer? Some computers also use a function key combination to turn the switch on or off.

Windows XP

• Click on START -> Control Panel -> Network Connections
• Double Click on your Wireless Network Connection
• Click on the Advanced button.
• Click on the Properties Button
• Select the Wireless Networks Tab

• Verify that the SSID on the Association tab is "OLPLWireless".
• Ensure that Data Encryption WEP box is not checked.
• Click on the OK button on the Wireless Network Properties window.
• Click on the OK button on the Wireless Connection Window.
• Open your internet browser.

Macintosh

OS X 10.4-10.6

• From the Applications folder, open Internet Connect.
• In the resulting window, click the AirPort button.
• Make sure that AirPort is on. Then from the Network pop-up menu, choose “OLPLWireless”

• Select the AirPort menu bar icon, make sure AirPort is "On."
• From the drop-down menu, select Other.
• Enter “OLPLWireless” into the Closed Network Name field and leave the Password field blank.
• Click OK.

Wireless Internet Access Defined

Wireless is internet access using radio frequencies as opposed to using cables. This enables a library patron to bring their own laptop to the library and use the library's internet connection from specified locations in the library. Hardware and Software Requirements

You can access the wireless network with a laptop, a notebook computer, or a personal digital assistant (PDA) equipped with an Internet browser and a Wi-Fi compliant (also known as IEEE 802.11a, b, or g) wireless Ethernet card.

In most devices the card will be installed in the PCMCIA slot on the side of the computer. Most card manufactures provide software that should be loaded onto your equipment before installing the card.

Support for Wireless Access

There are no staff available to assist with setting up wireless internet on your computer; you are the person responsible for setting up your own equipment.

Wireless connectivity can be complex as a result of the large number of combinations of laptop makes and models, wireless cards, and service providers.

If you use an operating system other than those listed here, or if you experience difficulties that the instructions below do not resolve, please consult the user manuals for your equipment or contact your laptop or wireless card provider for further assistance.

Printers are available via the wireless connection once the printer driver is installed. Follow the instructions on your device to download the driver. The instructions will follow the SPOT sign-in page. Please note: only available for Windows operating system.

Internet Explorer Tips:

• Please note that depending on your version of software, there may be variations in the procedures.
• From Control Panel, select Internet Options > Connections tab.
• If you also have a dial-up connection, it should not be set to "Always dial my default connection."
• LAN Settings should be "Automatically detect settings" and leave the Proxy server settings blank.

OLPLWireless is not a "secure" network. When you connect to a network that is not secure, be aware that someone with the right tools can see everything that you do, including the websites you visit, the documents you work on, and the user names and passwords that you use.
